Meet the Team – Cherene Long

Cherene came to Corrotherm straight from school as an admin assistant/reception staff, after meeting our own Gloria Feary through a shared passion for gymnastics. During her time in this initial role, Cherene worked hard for qualifications in admin, progressing to AAT to further expand her knowledge.

From here Cherene progressed to the shipping department before taking maternity leave after the birth of her little boy. On her return, she assisted the sales team with admin support, but due to her training and experience she has now settled in the accounts department in her current role as purchase ledger clerk.

Having been with the company for so long, Cherene has seen first-hand how it has expanded from a small office to the larger operation it is today. “Yes, it sure has grown,” she says. “I was the youngest for a very long time, though I am still the smallest! The company has developed in many ways. In particular, I remember when I started my admin course the company had to develop a Health and Safety policy for young workers – now look at all the policies and standards Corrotherm has in place!”

She describes Corrotherm as a ‘second family’: “They have seen me grow from a school pupil to a young lady to a married woman and finally a mummy! They probably know me better than I know myself. They have supported me through thick and thin at work and in my personal life.”

She has many great memories of her time at Corrotherm, especially of notable team outings, including a trip to the Goodwood Revival, where she got to sit in a red Ferrari for a photo, and a packed activities day where staff competed in teams across shooting, quad biking and archery. “I also remember our 10th anniversary going to the horse racing at Ascot, which I had never done before. We had a private box with fab food and drink, though on that occasion I didn't come home a winner!”

When not working hard in the office, Cherene is spending time with her family and enjoying watching her little boy grow up. Gymnastics was a big part of her life; she used to do women’s artistic gymnastics. “I got to travel lots with the sport and performed locally, regionally, nationally and, once, worldwide.” Her party trick is walking on her hands – and she can sometimes be persuaded to show us these skills!

Having been with Corrotherm for so long, she has watched the ups and downs of the market, but remains positive about the future of the industry. Over the last 16 years, Cherene has seen Corrotherm add numerous products to the lineup, but a favourite is the Monel Alloy 400, which has a high copper content, making it a lower-cost alternative to commercially pure nickel with a wide range of uses.
