Tackling the UK Manufacturing Skills Gap

25 November 2021

The events of the last few years have had a drastic effect on the health of UK manufacturing. Britain’s exit from the European Union was already set to impact staffing levels in the manufacturing sector, ending the free flow of workers from EU countries. Many EU citizens already in the UK also left the country, creating a labour gap it has not yet been possible to fill.

Applications of INCONEL Alloy 22

19 November 2021

Extremely resistant to aqueous and general corrosion, crevice corrosion, intergranular attack, pitting, and stress corrosion cracking, INCONEL alloy 22 is tough and versatile even at elevated temperatures. Nickel-based and with 22% chromium, alloy 22 is fully austenitic. This means that it’s non-magnetic and does not harden in response to heat treatment. Nickel also helps to protect the alloy against corrosion by halides, such as chlorides and fluorides, when subject to extreme heat.

Predicting Metal Stress-Cracking: The Future of Working with Metal Alloys

14 October 2021

In high-stress conditions, even the strongest and most durable metal component will eventually be prone to cracking. While precautions can be taken, we haven’t always understood exactly how these cracks develop or when a component is likely to become unreliable. And if a component does fail, the consequences can be terrible.
