foil

Corrotherm is adding a new product to its already extensive line-up of heat- and corrosion-resistant alloys: nickel foil. This exciting addition complements the existing product range that we offer and has a host of applications throughout the industry.

At Corrotherm we pride ourselves on being able to offer the most up-to-date products, to ensure that we are ahead of the game and can provide technologically superior materials to meet our customers' exact requirements.

Nickel foil delivers on this ethos, as it is a product that is ultra thin and yet offers excellent corrosion, welding and forming properties. These specifications make it a viable alternative option for the more traditional cold-rolled nickel 200 and 201.

The biggest advantage of nickel foil over other alloy products is that it can be manufactured in incredibly thin sheets – down to a minimum of 6μm (which is thinner than a human hair, by way of comparison). The secret to this lies in its innovative manufacturing process, which requires both cutting-edge equipment and years of practical experience.

Conventional rolling techniques don’t allow for such a thin result to be economically achieved. Instead the high-purity nickel foil (>99.97% nickel) is electro-deposited, which enables the material to be produced both thinly and in greater widths than with traditional techniques.

Although it could be considered a fairly niche product, nickel foil nevertheless has a wide range of applications within the engineering sector, which include gaskets, battery mesh, fuel cells, heating elements, pressure valve bursting discs, lead frames, printed resistor/circuit boards, electronics, micro-electronics, electrical, EMI, RFI, power storage, polymer fuses, process substrates, medical, analytical, aerospace, automotive, dental, renewable energy, RFID, security tags and heat treatment.

This foil, which we have sourced from a trusted supplier, is available in a range of foil surface finishes to meet your needs. Whether this is optical-quality mirror finishes or a textured surface, we can have the roughness tailored to meet your exact demands. There is also a range of adhesive coatings, and it can be laminated on one or both sides of the foil. Other surface coatings, such as black nickel oxide and PTFE impregnation, can be applied as required.

This superior new foil comes in a range of thicknesses from 6μm to 150μm, with a maximum width of 1,020mm. It offers a tensile strength of up to 790MPa in its raw electro-deposited state and up to 300MPa when fully annealed (when the metal has been treated to be softer, and hence cut and shaped more easily).
