Profile

Name: Tim Amor
Position: Financial controller
Time at Corrotherm: 3 years
Interests and hobbies: Squash, gym, DIY

Fulfilling an essential role as financial controller, with over 12 years of finance experience Tim is the man who makes sure the company’s finances run like clockwork.  It’s clear when talking to him that he is passionate and enthusiastic about what he does: “It’s always a challenge and very engaging.  All businesses are seeking improvements in work flows and looking to reduce running costs.  Finance is the driving force for many of these changes.”

Before Corrotherm Tim worked in the finance departments of some well-known business in and around Southampton; “I found myself working in large organisations such as Carnival and B&Q.  I was always a small cog in a large machine, which never suited me.”  Wanting to switch to a smaller team in a company where he could make a real difference, led him to Corrotherm’s door.  He’s pleased that he has managed to have a positive effect on the finances of the company ever since.

As well as enjoying the challenges of the finance department, Tim is also practically-minded, praising his dual-screen office setup as key to helping him manage his workflow: “Working in finance, anything that makes working on spreadsheets easier is a huge bonus.  It also makes working in a paperless office that much more achievable.” Tim's aim of a paperless office fits well with our ISO 14001 certification, which is all about minimising waste at every level; after all, as Tim quips, “waste is money”.  Now he just needs an in-house barista and a trendy craft burger grill to complete his vision of a perfect working environment.

When he’s not in the office, he is making the most of his time.  While he won’t divulge his hidden talent – “I’m afraid that’s secret!” – which conjures up all manner of ideas, he does say that he can usually be found running, shopping, down the gym, doing DIY or out on day trips.  “My goal for the weekend often changes so it varies, but it will always be making the most of my personal time.”

While Tim knows the money inside out, he is also pretty knowledgeable when it comes to Corrotherm’s product line, citing INCONEL Alloy 693 as his favourite grade, because it is “widely used in nuclear power generation and is excellent engineering material for synfuel projects”.

He certainly has a good understanding of the oil industry and the current challenges that it faces, including the falling prices of recent months.  He explains the implications that this could have for the future in this industry:  “The current dip in oil prices and over supply has made some future infrastructure projects not cost effective.  This has led to a broad slowdown of projects across the industry.  The slowdown in the global market, especially a fall in the growth of BRICS countries [Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa] has also had an effect.  But although these emerging markets, which were not so long ago tipped to reshape the world economy, have stumbled recently, they could easily rebound and drive demand for our products as they restart their economic engines."

Tim's also looking further ahead in the energy market: "I can see more diversification within the industry, with an increasing global push towards greener-energy production and a growing demand for renewables."
