Profile

Name: Shan Sadanandan
Position: Sales Manager
Time at Corrotherm: 11 years
Interests and hobbies: Carpentry, DIY and Martial Arts

Shan enjoys being part of a successful company and working with such a friendly team - it's funny how this keeps cropping up in our 'Meet the Team' interviews. Look like we must be doing something right!

Shan relishes the new challenges that every day brings, and enjoys making key executive decisions to help to push the company forward and keep it at the forefront of the industry. He's also passionate about Corrotherm's products, which is what makes him so good at his job.

When asked if he could highlight a favourite product, he opted for INCONEL Alloy 693 grades, which offers improved resistance to high-temperature corrosion. “It is a good alloy for high temperature-critical applications where metal dusting is an issue,” explains Shan. “INCONEL 693 solves a lot of problems for our customers, which is a side of the job I never get tired of!”

Shan possesses a great understanding of the industry in which Corrotherm operates and is always looking ahead in order to be prepared for future challenges. One challenge he sees in particular at the moment is the expected slowdown in the demand for oil as renewable energy sources are explored and expanded. However, with renewable energy coming at a cost and remaining technologically challenging, it is not yet fully economically viable, meaning that there will remain a place for the oil industry in the coming years.

Given this, what would Shan do to improve upon these issues if he had free rein? “The oil and gas industry is being scrutinised closely, and firms are expected to come up with new ways to extract natural resources while minimising pollution. The ambitious carbon reduction targets set by the government are also putting businesses under growing pressure to reduce their carbon emissions. The government will need to work very closely with the industry to come up with the advanced technologies needed to minimise carbon emissions, while remaining competitive. I'd also like to see the government offering tax reductions for companies that meet these carbon emissions targets.”

It’s certainly not all work and no play for this key member of our team, as we've seen during the company social events that we organise from time to time. Shan has fond memories in particular of a company day out at the Goodwood Revival Day, an event that showcases historic motorcars and puts on trackside entertainment. The Corrotherm team got into the full swing of things, getting dressed up in memorable outfits from the 40s, 50s and 60s.

Away from the office, Shan can be found enjoying a spot of retail therapy with his wife, or taking on DIY tasks around the house. The latter is certainly aided by his hidden talent of carpentry.

And talking of hidden skills, who knew that Shan was an expert in martial arts? He has been a keen martial artist since a young age and practises his sport twice a week, as well as teaching others. He’s certainly a man of many varied talents.
