Indonesian_delegation_visits_corrothermWe were recently visited by Indonesia Investment Promotion Centre (IIPC) dignitaries, who are looking for inward investment in the energy sector. They had identified us as a strategic supplier in their region, and wanted to explore opportunities for us to work in the country.

The delegates comprised of seven senior ranking officials from the IIPC and the Indonesian Embassy based in London, including H.E. Mr. Hamzah Thayeb, Ambassador for the Republic of Indonesia, and Mr. J.S. Meyer Siburian, Director, Indonesia Investment Promotion Centre (IIPC).

Their visit couldn’t have been better timed, as it comes hot on the heels of the opening of our new Asia Pacific office in Perth, Australia, where colleagues are working to expand our presence in the region.

During their time with us, we had the pleasure of showing the delegates around our warehouse and talking to them about our plans within their region.

Jan also arranged for them to meet members of the Hampshire Chamber of Commerce and the office of Solent LEP, which gave the delegates the opportunity to look at reciprocal trade opportunities in our region. Good one, Jan!

It is exciting to be able to explore potential new markets, and Indonesia is certainly worth watching.

The country’s economy took a bit of a battering this year as inflation accelerated, while its currency depreciated.

Even though their GDP slowed and investment moderated during 2013, the economy still managed to generate 1.2 million new jobs, which is pretty impressive.

Indonesia is set for some growth during 2014 as a result of stronger world trade, the rupiah’s depreciation, and measures being taken to dampen imports and support exports.

Will we be at the forefront of that growth? Time will tell.
