Oil and gas seem to be a popular choice of topic these days with mass panic buying and worries over using up our natural resources.

This has always been a very real concern. We’re still trying to find oil and gas fields that we can tap and utilise, however it is believed that most of these fields have now been found.

A main concern for those who drill and find oil and gas is the quality of the oil and gas they are now drilling.

To begin with we drilled ‘sweet’ fields, basically meaning oil and gas that was pure and clean with no corrosive chemicals and toxins within it that you found nearer the surface of the earth. This was kind to the equipment used to extract the substance and caused no problems at all – good news for everyone!

However, we have since used up these ‘sweet’ fields and have had to drill deeper into the earth where we are now encountering what’s known as ‘sour’ fields. The oil and gas is compromised by corrosive substances, which damage and corrode the metal on equipment used to extract these substances.

This is where Corrotherm leaps into action. They supply corrosion resistant alloys to manufacturers that build the equipment to dig and extract oil and gas. A lot of manufacturers avoid these corrosion resistant  alloys as they can be somewhat pricier than lower grade. They end up spending more money in the long run, however, replacing and servicing their equipment.

This can be combated. If the manufacturer spends that little bit more on buying corrosion resistant alloys from Corrotherm at the beginning of this process, they’ll end up saving money in the long run as they won’t have to replace their equipment as often as they would with lower grade  alloys.
